Exit Slip: Reconciling Ways of Knowing sept 24
During the meeting I think one concept that I got was that nature is not only a collection of "things" but they are actual living bodies that are the same as us. We humans are usually thinking of them as 'it' but actually they're not! every plant has a life, and humans are only using them as objects. This has to stop.... and we need to learn from the Indigenous people in respecting the nature and every living creature around us.
They also mentioned how when they attend to and respect the plants, they grow better. It is counterintuitive in the science area because science describes the plants' growth in a scientific point of view (sunshine, water, etc, but not 'care' or 'respect')
Yet, I do have the personal experience with communicating to the plants (okay, I do sound a bit crazy now) and I do sense the difference between a healthy, natural plant and a plant with a lot of pollution (mainly from human involvement , noises from the traffic, etc.). They look different and talk differently. In Canada the plants are usually clean and pure but in Shanghai, the metropolitan city... they are kind of attacked by the amount of pollution and human malice. Though they're still purer than human, they are not that good for a healthy connection. (Don't get me wrong, I was just trying to connect and feel. nothing supernatural.)
They say that if we don't care for the plants, they simply go away. It could be true. But it may require a huge impact of carelessness if given the right amount of sunshine etc. to my belief. Probably they're just saying that they don't attend to them in the correct way, (i.e. not watering them etc.) or they're talking about nature in the general way. If we continue to disrespect the nature around us, we are definitely doomed eventually. The Covid is just a start... okay, I'm not gonna sound like a psychic and that is just an irrelevant guess. As they said, our survival truly depend on the relationship with nature. We need to pay due respect to the community of beings around us so we could receive the same respect back from them. It is them that allows us to survive, in fact.
